The Bobby Cutts Jr. Sentencing
Back in the early summer of 2007 a Canton city cop was arrested for the murder of his estranged lover and pregnant mistress. The case has brought national media attention to the area where I live for the past eight months and today, Feb 15, 2008 Bobby Cutts Jr. was found guilty on all counts of murder and child endangerment, the abuse of a corpse and aggravated murder of the fetus. They found hi guilty beyond a reasonable doubt on all charges and his sentencing will begin on Feb 25, 2008. The evidence was stacked so high against him that it seems it would have been impossible for him to get off the hook. He had motive because the pregnant mistress would be carrying his fourth child that he would have to pay child support. Other testimonies and evidence also put the “nails in the coffin” for Bobby Cutts Jr. The couple's 2 1/2-year-old son, Blake, who was found home alone, gave investigators their first clues to his mother's disappearance when he said, "Mommy's crying. Mommy broke the table. Mommy's in the rug," and, later, "Daddy's mad," (SHEERAN).
I was driving down the road today about ½ mile from the courthouse where the verdict was about to come out while I was on my way home from school and heard the readings from the Judge live over the radio. Canton is a rather smaller city and news like this is the gossip of every restaurant at the noon lunch hour. As for myself, I must say that I am glad that the case has come to a close and the guilty verdict with beyond a reasonable doubt has been proven and secured. It is now up to the courts to decide upon his sentencing and hopefully they can keep the cold blooded killer behind bars for life or possibly give him the death penalty for the two live he took of a pregnant woman and a fetus that had no chance at life, a fetus which would be his own daughter, a fetus whom had no way to defend itself.

Icon Analysis
There are many popular icons that are found within society but a few that I feel that help to shape our society is McDonalds, GI Joe, and the Chevrolet Corvette. While all are very well known of throughout society here in America, McDonalds is in practically every country in the world. It is perhaps one of the most recognized symbols having the golden arches dispalyed around the globe for the fast food giant. GI Joe was a popular cartoon, TV show, and sold many action figures throughout the later part of the 20th century. GI Joe was often watched by many young children on Satuerday mornings accross America! The last Icon I feel is important is the Chevrolet Corvette. It has been produced since 1953, and has stood for what it means to have horespower and class on the American roads and is the epitome of Chevrolet.
I chose McDonalds becasue I can remember going through the drive thru when I was a kid and getting excited about getting my toy in my happy meal.As I got older I then swithced to the ever famous double cheeseburgers and now i go through every moring and get a cup of coffe on my way to work and sometimes a bvreakfast sandwich. Mc Donalds is cheap food and fast to get. They have the saying "Billions and Billions Served" and all those Billions understand what a 99cent heart attack in a sac means to them while not special we eat many meals over the course of our lives there!
As for choosing GI Joe, I can remember when I was about 5 years old getting dressed up in my camo outfit and my plastci machine guns in hand to watch the TV show. I couldnt wait to go to Toys R US and pick up the latest action figures or military vehicles such as toys of the Cobra or if you were lucky like me you got the Comando set for your birthday. Many of us grew up playing with those toys and I chose this icon because we are in a state of war on terror and many of those whom are serving have probably played with them the same as me and never actaully realized that when we got older we would find ourselves in a hostile enviroment fighting the real King Cobra!
The last Icon I chose is the ever famous Corvette that has been produce annually since 1953! The car has been with us for over fifty plus years and every year they seem to out do themselves on horsepower, luxury, and design. I have many family members who own corvettes and my dad in particular has a 1963 with side pipes and wow its a beauty. GM has been one of the worlds larget automakers for years providing the economy with many makes and models of cars, but for the Giant, the Chevrolet Corvette is the epitome of what it means to have a peice of history, American Muscle, and an overall really nice car!

Popular Culture “343”
Popular culture can be practically anything; person, place or idea within a society or culture that is popular. To me popular culture found within our society is everywhere and it’s in the media, on television and in the newspapers. However I do not feel that an artifact has to be an item like Nintendo Wii or a popular candidate with popular ideas, but it can be a spirit that is found within ourselves that drives us to help each other in a time of need and even give ones life in the efforts to save others.
The artifact I choose is the 343 firemen who gave their lives in the line of duty on September 11th 2001. They represent the spirit that is popular in this country to help those in need. Because of these types of individuals we are much safer and can rely on help from our neighbors in times of natural disasters as well as terrorist attacks. I am a firefighter, and chose that to be my career after I saw not what happened on that day, but after I saw that money doesn’t matter in situations like that and the fact that a person would risk there live to save a complete stranger is one of the most prestigious artifacts in the world. Because of the spirit that lies within many of us, today we have over a million firefighters in this country with more than 70% being volunteer. This truly is a popular culture as many who do not fight fire as a career or volunteer help in other ways.
It is important to understand that this spirit is a popular culture artifact because in business a company that helps out and has the spirit will have a good image in society as being a good company. If a business donates money or employees to help out with natural disasters and large incidents in there communities they are well respected for their efforts. Some large companies purchase fire trucks for their communities or AEDs for use in public facilities and that certainly makes a positive image. As for my career, I have decided to make the popular culture artifact of having the same type of spirit as the “343” firemen who gave there lives helping strangers exit harms way.
FIREFIGHTER'S PRAYER
When I'm called to duty God wherever flames may rage
grant me the strength to save a life whatever be its age
Help me to embrace a little child before it is too late
or save an older person from the horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently put the fire out
I want to fill my calling Lord and give the best in me
to guard my every neighbor and protect his property
And if according to your will I am to lose my life
God bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife
